Checklist for birds in Suriname, South America

This checklist gives an indication of the chance to notice a bird in five parts of Suriname, the coastal area, northern savanna belt, rainforest belt, areas above 400 meter and the Sipaliwini savanna in the south. C stands for common, U is uncommon, R means rare, '-' when there are no records (all in proper habitat). For more than 650 birds the english name has a link to a page with photo, comment and sometimes a sound on this site. For some species a remark is made in an extra list with special cases, like additions to the avifauna since the 2009 appearance of a "Annotated Checklist of the Birds of Suriname". The distribution data are further explained on a second page.

There are also separate lists of the birds of the various hotspots for birders in Suriname. For each bird a distribution map can also be found on each individual page. This checklist has 752 species entries since April 2018 and follows (not very well) the recommended names and order of the SACC list for South America (June 2009).The names and the order of the birds do change a lot, you know.
